RUPAL + JERROD | HILTON PRESIDENT KANSAS CITY WEDDING | KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2017/12/rupal-jerrod-hilton-president-kansas-city-wedding-kc-wedding-photographer I am so excited to blog about this beautiful wedding. I was so excited when I first met with Rupal and Jerrod and they told me they were going to have two ceremonies one being an Indian tradition. They got married at the Hilton President Kansas City and their day was combined between beautiful colorful Indian traditions with elegance of the beautiful ballroom they got married in. I loved all their details and their colors. I also loved that they included their fur baby Oliver. Thank you so much Rupal and Jerrod for having me document your day.

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE PROPOSAL AND HOW IT WAS DONE?

My parents were coming back in town from the holidays and Jerrod and I wanted to get dinner with them to celebrate Christmas & New Years. We had gotten together at my house on a Friday night. My dad, who always comes and helps to fix things around the house, wanted to show me where the water valve was in the basement to shut it off in case I ever had to. We came back upstairs and Jerrod was holding our dog, Oliver, and he asked me to hold him... and that is when I noticed the ring around Oliver's collar - and right then and there, Jerrod got down on one knee and proposed with Oliver and my parents there. I can't remember much else because I was in a daze!..... We celebrated and called family and friends and then still decided to go to dinner. I suggested the place (Summit in Waldo). We walked in and it was packed. Jerrod told me to go to the right, where they have an event space, and I was shocked when I entered and his parents were there along with my best friends and their significant others. Another awesome surprise!! We celebrated some more there with our family and friends. It was such a great night!

WHAT LED YOU TO CHOOSE PHOTOS BY NEYAN FOR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

We loved that she had photographed other non-traditional weddings and an Indian wedding before, so she knew what to expect and that it wasn't going to be a typical day. She was professional, on top of things, and made sure to capture what we wanted out of our day. We looked at her other examples of work and they were so great! She was easy to work with especially with our schedules, which was awesome too!

WHAT’S THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY?

We loved that we were able to include our dog, Oliver, in the wedding photos and also in the traditional ceremony. It meant a lot to have him included with us :)

IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO REDO THE WHOLE THING, WOULD YOU CHANGE ANYTHING THAT DAY?

I don't think I would change a thing! It was the best day of our lives.

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

We planned our wedding in 9 months, and it definitely can be done. Don't stress (easier said than done) and truly try to enjoy the big day and the special moments with your husband/wife, as well as your friends and family!

SARAH + JERAD | HAWTHORNE HOUSE WEDDING | KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2017/8/sarah-jerad-hawthorne-house-wedding-kc-wedding-photographer Sarah and Jerad got married at the beautiful Hawthorne House, which is actually one of my favorite venues. Their day was perfect and these two were amazing to work with. I was so excited to work with them again because they rocked their engagement session we did a month earlier, which you can see HERE. I love when couples are up for anything and these two are so fun and were up for anything to get great photos on their wedding day. There was a carnival going on at Parkville and we decided to stop by which I’m so happy we did because we had so much fun and got to capture some great photos. Thank You so much Sarah and Jerad for having me be your wedding photographer. It has been a pleasure getting to know you two. I asked Sarah and Jerad to answer some questions for me to share with you all and here are their answers throughout the blog:

WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND HOW YOU TWO MET?

We both attended Missouri State University for college but weren't introduced until we were back in Kansas City. In college we were around each other quite a few times, even said a couple words to each other but were never introduced. There are actually pictures on Facebook of us back in college where we are in each others photos but never had met before.

So we officially were introduced on June 12th, 2015 when we were back in Kansas City. I was working and Jerad was a grad assistant at William Jewell. We were both single and our mutual friends thought we should meet. So Joe asked Jerad if he wanted to go on a double date with me, Jerad said yes. However, Jessi (Joe's fiancé at the time) asked me if I wanted to go to a movie with her and hang out with a group of people. So turns out I was going on a blind date that I didn't know that I was on. We went and saw the premiere of Jurassic World. Well, Jerad was so excited about his date with me he accidentally fell asleep and didn't show up until the movie was just starting. We talked after the movie and the four of us went to Applebee's. I didn't realize it was a date until Jerad offered to pay for my food and I was really confused. Anyways, I apparently made a good impression because two days later Jerad asked me on an official date.

We laugh so hard about this story because looking back on it I should've had a clue. Our story is unique and funny, like our relationship, and will definitely be one that we're excited to tell our kids someday. :)

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE PROPOSAL AND HOW IT WAS DONE?

So in September of last year Jerad moved to Alabama for a job and we had to suffer through long distance, so when it came time for special occasions (ex. Valentine's Day) we had to celebrate whenever we knew we were going to be around each other. I don't like to celebrate Valentine's Day on actual Valentine's Day, Jerad and I usually just choose a day in February and go out on a romantic date. So Jerad was coming into town for the Super Bowl, on the off chance that the Chiefs made it, and we decided we were going to go on our "Valentine's" date on February 4th. So we got all dressed up once Jerad's flight got in and Jerad was really anxious to get on with our date. I just thought we were going to go to dinner... little did I know what else was in store.

On our way to the car, Jerad hands me my keys and says "You're driving" then hands me my first clue. He ended up taking me on a scavenger hunt to all of our favorite places in Kansas City that had a special meaning in our relationship. The last clue took us to the Liberty Memorial where we were going to watch the sunset. No I still had no clue that he was going to propose because he had made it clear we were going to watch the sunset then go to dinner. We start walking towards the memorial and I saw my mom and my dad and then Jerad's mom, dad, and sisters (who were hiding behind newspapers), and that's when Jerad proposed. It was perfect! <3

WHAT LED YOU TO CHOOSE PHOTOS BY NEYAN FOR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

I was referred to Photos by Neyan by another photographer actually. Once I got her name and started looking through the photos I saw a couple that I had actually graduated with and I remember how much I loved those photos and knew that I had to have Neyan! Then after meeting with her for the first time I was so sure that this is who I wanted as our wedding photographer. Jerad looked at her blog and I called him and told him how excited I was and he said "Sounds Great!" I am so happy we chose Neyan to photograph our day!

WHAT’S THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY?

There's two moments for us, the first would definitely be the first look! It was such a gorgeous day and it had been a hectic morning. In that moment we were able to take a minute and pray and it felt like we were the only ones there. The second would definitely be the last minute trip to the Carnival! We are so glad we made the trip over there, especially having Ethan (Best Man) disappear and go get a corn dog and eating cotton candy in our wedding attire. I think it made our wedding even more unique, and it was really fun!

IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO REDO THE WHOLE THING, WOULD YOU CHANGE ANYTHING THAT DAY?

The only thing we would change is to make the day longer, but we would love to relive it so we could remember more of it.

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Enjoy every moment, both the planning and the day of your wedding, all of it goes by so fast so remember to take a moment, don't stress, and soak it all in . Have someone videotape it, even if you can't afford a videographer. If anything goes wrong or not as planned, just remember at the end of the day as long as you are married to the person you love the rest of it doesn't matter.

VIKTORIYA + AMIN | KANSAS CITY ENGAGEMENT SESSION | KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2017/7/viktoriya-amin-kansas-city-engagement-session-kc-wedding-photographer Where to start with these two amazing people? There’s so much I could say but I think most of it can best be said by the photos themselves. Viktoriya and Amin complement each other so perfectly. We did this session on one of the hottest days of the year and they were troopers beating the heat and not letting it stop the session. They were awesome to photograph and I had a great time with them. Thank You Amin and Viktoriya for choosing me to document your Kansas City Engagement Session, looking forward to documenting your wedding next month.

LAUREN + DAVID | WESTON RED BARN FARM WEDDING | KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2017/7/lauren-david-weston-red-barn-farm-wedding-kc-wedding-photographer I am so excited to blog this wedding. It was so hard narrowing down the images for this blog post for Lauren and David’s beautiful wedding at Weston Red Barn Farm. You might remember these two from their amazing Shawnee Mission Park Engagement Session. Lauren and David are so awesome their humor and down to earth personalities made it so easy to connect with them and document their beautiful day. There were so many sweet moments throughout the day but one of my favorites was when we got to take photos of Lauren and David in the same getaway car that was used by David’s parents and grandparents on their wedding day. How sweet is that? T

Thank You Lauren and David for having us be a part of your wedding. It’s been so great getting to know you two…..GIGGLES (their nickname for me…lol)!! I asked Lauren and David to answer some questions and here what they had to say:

WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND HOW YOU TWO MET?

We met back in 2003 at the pool through some friends. We went to the same high school, but didn't meet until the summer following David's senior year. I was a year behind him in school. We dated for a couple of years, but broke up and went our separate ways. We didn't talk for about 7 years. A few years ago we reconnected

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE PROPOSAL AND HOW IT WAS DONE?

I had worked 2 back-to-back 12-hour shifts. I texted David on second day that my day was pretty rough and stressful. When I came home after work, we ate a quick bite to eat upstairs then he suggested we go downstairs to watch tv. When I walked downstairs I saw a beautiful bouquet of flowers sitting on the bar. When I turned around he was on one knee

WHAT’S THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY?

The ceremony:-) Seeing David for the first time was perfect. We didn't see each other before the wedding. Also, I loved seeing from a distance my niece, the flower girl, wave at everyone before walking down the aisle and give David a big hug when she reached the end.

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Don't sweat the small details. Most likely won't go exactly how you plan it anyway so just go with the flow

LAUREN + DUSTIN | KANSAS CITY INTIMATE BACKYARD WEDDING | KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2017/7/lauren-dustin-kansas-city-wedding-kc-wedding-photographer Lauren and Dustin got married in front of their close family and friends at their friend’s backyard and had a beautiful intimate ceremony. Then for their reception walked over to their other friend’s back yard which was right across the street where they had a tent set up and had a fun reception planned. The reception was laid back and perfect for these two, I asked Lauren and Dustin to answer some questions to get to know them better and here what they had to say:

WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND THE TWO OF YOU, HOW AND WHERE DID YOU MEET?

We met on an online dating site called OkCupid.  We didn't even match up highly, but he had kind eyes and was playing a banjo in his profile picture, so I gave him my phone number.  We talked on the phone for so many hours before we met, I felt like I already knew him.  It's the only first date I've ever been on that I wasn't nervous, just excited to get to spend time with my friend.  He is a pilot and lived over an hour away from me at the time, ended up flying his own plane down to meet me for our first date.

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE PROPOSAL AND HOW IT WAS DONE?

When we first started dating, Dustin booked a hotel room at a hotel on the beach and that weekend was when I realized I loved him.  For the proposal, he booked the same hotel a year later and took me to see a concert by one of our favorite artists, White Buffalo. We went to get margaritas and tacos, saw the best concert I'd ever been to, and when we got back to the room he had champagne waiting and asked me to sit on the patio with him to watch the stars.  He was asking me questions about constellations and finally asked, "Can I ask you one more question?" When I turned around, he was on one knee with the ring.  Everything about it was perfect.

WHAT LED YOU TO CHOOSE PHOTOS BY NEYAN FOR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

I used The Knot & Yelp to help me find vendors since I was planning a wedding from California.  Photos by Neyan seemed to be highly rated and I liked the pictures on the website.  Neyan was great about answering questions from the first contact and after our first Skype meeting; we felt she fit what we were looking for perfectly

WHAT’S THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY?

The day was a complete blur, like everyone said it would be.  The overall feeling of fun, lightheartedness and love that I felt the whole day was exactly what we wanted and I'll always remember that feeling.

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Enjoy the planning!  You only get to pick your vendors once.  You only get to have a bridal shower once.  All of the little things that may seem stressful at the time, they're some of the best memories.  Enjoy all of the moments leading up to the ultimate prize, which is getting to celebrate finding the love of your life!  Don't forget what it's all really about.

MICHELLE + KYLE | FAULTLESS EVENT SPACE WEDDING | KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2017/6/michelle-kyle-faultless-event-space-wedding-kc-wedding-photography I had a great time photographing Michelle and Kyle’s wedding at the Faultless Event Space in Kansas City. Michelle looked stunning in her gorgeous dress and these two were great together. They had a sweet heartfelt ceremony and their reception was romantic and beautiful with all the flowers and candles. Michelle and Kyle were so wonderfully warm and welcoming and made sure everyone was having a great time. I asked Michelle and Kyle to answer some questions to get to know them better and here is what they had to say:

WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND THE TWO OF YOU, HOW AND WHERE DID YOU MEET?

We met on Cinco de Mayo 2012. He was out with some buddies, and I was out with some girlfriends for a bachelorette party. We met at the Velvet Dog in Martini Corner.

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE PROPOSAL AND HOW IT WAS DONE?

We were celebrating being together for 4 years in Riviera Maya the week of Cinco de Mayo 2016. We had a private beach dinner on May 5th, and after dinner, Kyle got down on one knee and asked me to marry him with the beautiful beach and waves in the background.

DO YOU HAVE A MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM THE WEDDING DAY?

The First Look, even though the hotel was buzzing with people everywhere, it still felt like it was just the two of us.

Focus on what's most important for YOUR day, and don't sweat the other stuff.

DANIELLE + JASON | MARYVILLE MO WEDDING | KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2017/5/danielle-jason-maryville-mo-wedding-kc-wedding-photographer My second photographer and I drove down to Maryville MO to document Danielle and Jason’s beautiful wedding day which started out with lots of rain. We got lucky that it cleared up just a bit for us to get some photos outside. Danielle, Jason, the bridal party and their families were all so wonderful to work with. It was really fun to go around town in Maryville and around Northwest Missouri State University to get some photos. Thank You so much Danielle and Jason for choosing me to be your wedding photographer. I asked the couple to answer some questions to get to know them better and here are their answers throughout the blog.

TELL US ABOUT HOW AND WHERE DID YOU MEET?

I actually met Jason’s mother before I knew him. When I worked at the dental office that Jason’s parents attended, his mother was my patient was day. I talked to her throughout the whole appointment just like we had known each other for years. After her appointment, she called Jason to tell him that there was a girl she just met at the dentist office that he needed to meet! Jason told his mom that he could find his own girlfriend! My friend that worked at the dentist office with me said the same thing about Jason. After his mom was in the office, my friend said “hey, she has a son that is single you should look him up on Facebook.” So I did, but nothing about his Facebook was striking to me so I let it go! A couple weeks later we were each out at the bar with our group of friends. I knew a couple of the guys in his friend group because they were from my home town so my roommate was talking to the guys we knew and then Jason came over to me and asked what my name was. I told him who I was and he started laughing! In my mind, I’m thinking who the heck does this guy think he is?? So, I asked him what his name was and was not expecting to hear “Jason Guthrie.” I think my jaw hit the floor and I was kind of like “Oh crap.” We became friends on Facebook the next day and exchanged numbers shortly after, and the rest is history!

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL AND HOW IT WAS DONE?

When Jason and I got engaged, I was still in Dental Hygiene school in Des Moines, IA. I was 2 1/2 hours away from Jason every week throughout a good part of our relationship. I came home every weekend to spend time with him and little did I know that one weekend I would come back to school the next week an engaged woman. It was Valentine’s Day weekend, February 12th! I didn’t think much about it being Valentine’s Day weekend because we had both decided we weren’t going get each other anything. I had a big meeting for school on that day so I didn’t get back into town until late and we were suppose to meet my parents for dinner. I was running around the house like a crazy woman trying to get ready to go and all of a sudden, I’m like where the heck is Jason? Just about that time I heard him say “Hey Danielle, come down here for a minute!” I realized he was downstairs and I said, “No, I have to get ready! What are you doing??” He finally convinced me to come downstairs and the entire way down the stairs I was getting irritated because I needed to get ready. Once, I got down there he asked me some random question about our basement and what we were going to do with it, since we hadn’t lived in our house for very long. I looked at him like why in the world are you worried about this right now?? When I looked at him, he was smiling like something was going on… then he walked over to the chair and said come here. Once I started over there, I noticed a red light in the corner of the room. I immediately said, “what is that??” He grabbed a box from behind the chair and got down on one knee, asking me to be his forever. I was in shock, like seriously is this happening?! At the same time, I was mad that he had tricked me and surprised me so much, because he knew how much I hate surprises!! The red light in the corner of the room was him recording the whole thing, so we would never forget the memory of us becoming engaged!

WHAT LED YOU TO CHOOSE PHOTOS BY NEYAN TO BE YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?

I had struggled big time with finding a photographer that I was extremely impressed with! I had plenty of options living in Maryville but at the same time wanted something different than everyone else was doing or had done! I finally thought I found the one that was going to be perfect for our day, made reservations to use her services and a couple weeks later she backed out on me! I struggled again for at least a month to find someone that was worthwhile! My mother-in-law works at the university here in Maryville and has student workers in her office all the time. One of her student workers had just been married and was talking about how much she loved her photographer. My mother-in-law told me about her and gave me her information! I went to Neyan’s website and started looking at her pictures and thought to myself, where in the world was his girl 3 months ago?? I immediately fell in love with her pictures and everything she was about and I hadn’t even talked to her!! I started messaging Neyan and quickly realized I had to do what it takes to get her to photograph our day! She was amazing to work with from the very beginning and made everything go so smoothly! I wouldn’t trade our experience with Neyan for anything! I would recommend her to anyone that was looking for an amazing photographer to capture their special day!

DO YOU HAVE A MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YHE WEDDING DAY?

I can’t say that we have ONE memorable moment of our wedding day; because the whole entire weekend was something we will never forget! Everything was even more special than we could ever imagine it to be. From having all of our friends and family together for rehearsal dinner and being able to give them gifts and thank each and every one of them for being there for us, to the morning of the wedding day getting ready and spending time with some of the best friends we could ask for, to seeing each other for the first time in our wedding clothing. The day continued to get even better once we started seeing family show up all dressed up for OUR day, to going through the ceremony and feeling so much love for one another! From there, the day only went up even more, it was time to celebrate US and the love we had for each another. To seeing the amount of people there to help Jason and I celebrate, to the amazing food that was prepared for us, to sharing our day with Jason’s Aunt and Uncle who had been married 50 years on our wedding, to dancing the night away! So many special moments throughout the whole weekend!

IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO REDO THE WHOLE THING AGON WOULD YOU CHANGE ANYTHING?

f it was possible to make a wedding last multiple days, I would have done it! You put in so much hard work and planning for months and months before the big day and it seems to be over so quickly! Was it the most perfect day for us? Absolutely, but would I have loved for it to go on for 2-3 days, sure why not! That’s how much fun we had celebrating us spending the rest of our lives together! I guess that’s what a honeymoon is for huh?! :)

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Your wedding day is only one day of your whole life, so everything you dreamed of having or doing on your wedding day, DO IT! Make it everything you had ever wanted and smile through the whole thing, love every minute of the adventure because it goes so so fast!

They are SO fun to be around and we laughed and GIGGLED the whole time so much so that they even had a nickname for me by the end of our session…giggles haha. Thank You so much Lauren and David for a great evening and for being so awesome in front of the camera, Can’t wait to document your big day next month.  Here are just a few photos from their Engagement session.

MY HOME OFFICE | KANSAS CITY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2017/5/my-home-office-kansas-city-wedding-photographer I am SO excited to finally blog about my Home office.  When I was house shopping one of the most important things to me was having an office space where I could meet clients. I used to always meet clients at a coffee shop or somewhere in public but I did not like that at all! Sometimes the place where we would meet would be too crowded and it was hard for clients to feel comfortable and open up. Another reason is it was always hard to show clients all the products I offer and for them to see more of my work and get a better sense of my style to see if we would be a good fit.  Even though all of my shoots are on location it’s nice having a space to meet for client consultation or for ordering sessions. When I found this house I was so happy that there was a formal dining room right when you walk in the front door that I knew right away this was the right house for me without even seeing the rest of the place. I knew I was going to turn the dining room in to a home office, which I am very happy I did. I wanted to give the office a softer look and that’s why I got all white furniture and incorporated my brand color Mint Green that is also my favorite color. I am so happy how everything turned out exactly how I envisioned and it’s been so great meeting clients here without any distractions where clients feel comfortable to discuss their wedding day with me. Looking forward to meeting more future clients here. Here are a few photos from the office.

BRETT + BRIANNA | CIRCLE S RANCH | LAWRENCE KANSAS WEDDING https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2017/4/brett-brianna-circle-s-ranch-lawrence-kansas-wedding OH MY GOODNESS!! Where do I even start with this wedding? You might remember this gorgeous couple from their Shawnee Mission Park Engagement Session, which they rocked. I was SO excited to document their wedding at Circle S Ranch in Lawrence Kansas, but the weather had been a little crazy that week and there was a chance for snow, and what you know the day started out with snow. If it was any other wedding I would be worried, but I was not worried one bit knowing how awesome Bri and Brett are I knew they would totally be up for doing photos outside in the cold to get some awesome shots. I have to say I have been blessed with amazing clients but these two are so incredible, down to earth (I love how brianna get so excited), and so perfect for each other. This past year as I have gotten to know them better I have learned they are the kindest people I have ever met, but on the wedding day I learned that they were surrounded by people just like them. From the bridal party (not one bridesmaid complained about photos in the cold) to their families, and everyone involved were so sweet, welcoming and easy to work with. Thank You SO much Bri and Brett for letting me be a part of your day. I can’t tell you how blessed I feel to have met you two!

I asked the couple to answer some questions for me and here is what they had to say:

What’s the story behind the two of you, how and where did you meet?

Brett and I initially met in high school on the Olathe East Swim Team. At the time, we were close friends, but nothing more. I even wrote him a letter when he graduated (that he still has to this day) that told him how much he means to me and that he “is like a big brother to me." Haha.. needless to say, he is no longer like a brother to me.

Six years later, Brett and I had lost touch. We talk now about how we weren’t able to see each other as more than friends before because we had some growing up to do and some important lessons to learn. We met back up at a camping and float trip with our mutual friends. Our similarities, love for water, and playful personalities quickly sparked a flame that was definitely more than a friendship. After a couple of dates and trips to the lake that always brought upon deep conversations, we fell in love. Our love was easy and strong. Our faith, values, and love for life deepened our relationship until we were unable to live without the other.

Can you tell me about the proposal and how it was done?

Table Rock Lake is a place that is very special to Brett and me. We both grew up immersed in lake life. The lake is one of the things that has strengthened our relationship through laughter, time spent with family, and long talks in the water or under the stars at night. At the end of the day, it is where we fell in love.

On 4th of July weekend, Brett and I were watching the sunset over Table Rock Lake and talking about our relationship. At the time, I had no idea just how serious this talk was about to get. Brett explained that he has never cared so deeply or been so connected to another person. We talked about how we have the same future goal and we value a relationship that has Christ at the core. Brett teared up and I knew this talk was going to serve more of a purpose than just talking about the present. He reached in his pocket, got down on one knee (even though we were surrounded by sharp rocks,) and said “so now, in this place that has bonded us, Brianna, will you marry me?” Through happy tears I joyfully said yes! We sat on the dock with our feet in the water and took in the moment. After a while, Brett’s family came down to the water to join in the celebration and we watched fireworks together.

What led you to choose Photos by Neyan for your photography?

A talented photographer was the one thing that Brett and I decided would be at the top of our wants list. It was probably the thing that we researched more than any other decision. We stumbled upon Photos by Neyan through The Knot and were in awe of her work. We thought she would for sure be out of our price range. We contacted her, got a very kind and quick response, and learned that she was not out of our price range and even included an engagement shoot! We knew that we would have to act fast if we were going to snag her before another couple did. We did not need to look any further. We knew she was the one. We had our engagement shoot in the summer and Neyan was incredible. She was ready to try anything unique and fun, even getting into the water at the end of the shoot! The pictures turned out AMAZING. Everything about the process of working with Neyan has been a perfect experience. She has responded to my texts of questions to put my mind at ease, helped me pick out an engagement shoot outfit, given us a couple of photos that we needed earlier than planned, and has all around gone out of her way to make our memories perfect. Brett and I have talked about the fact that next to picking one another to marry, choosing Photos by Neyan was the single best decision we made for our wedding.

Do you have a memorable moment from the Wedding day?

I think the part about our wedding that just had us in absolute awe was the fact that every person that we love most was in one place, just to celebrate and support us. Our closest friends and family traveled from near and far to be with us, and we felt more than loved. We had people rearrange impossible work schedules, buy expensive flights, and drive up to 1,000 miles! It is truly a gift from God that we have the people in our lives that we do.

If you had the chance to redo the whole thing again, would you change anything?

We would redo it just to relive it. So to answer the question; no, we wouldn’t change a thing!

Any advice for future couples planning their wedding?

Just take it all in! Enjoy the process and enjoy the day. This might be the only time in your entire life that you are surrounded by all of the most meaningful people in your life. Value every second!

We got to explore a couple of different locations in Kansas City and ended the session at crown center for their Kansas City Engagement Session since the Christmas lights were still up. I had a great time strolling through the snow with these two lovebirds. Thank You Zach and Tori for braving the cold with me and I can’t wait to document your wedding in October. I usually don’t accept any weddings or work at all on New Year’s Eve and this was the first time that I had done a new year’s wedding and I’m so glad I did because it was a blast. They had a great Gatsby themed wedding, which was perfect for their New Year’s Eve wedding celebration and seem so fitting for them.

Jade and Chris. …Thank you SO much for choosing me as your Kansas City wedding photographer! Happy 2017 and here are some of the images from their day

CECILIA + MARK | FALL LEAF FARMS WEDDING | KANSAS CITY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2017/2/cecilia-mark-fall-leaf-farms-linwood-ks-wedding I’m so excited to finally blog this wedding. Mark and Cecilia were so great to work with. These two ran a half marathon the morning of their wedding, I know you can’t even tell but the morning of their wedding they ran the Kansas city half marathon which is so fun since they are both runners and based on what they shared it was a lot of fun. Thank You Mark and Cecilia for choosing Photos by Neyan to photograph your wedding. We really had a great time. I asked the couple to answer some questions to get to know them better and here is what they had to say:

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND THE TWO OF YOU, HOW AND WHERE DID YOU MEET?

Mark and I met at AMC in 2009 where we both worked. We did not spend time together outside of work then as Mark was a manager and I was a server. Over time we both left that theater and only interacted via Facebook. Around Christmas 2013, my best friend invited Mark to join a group of friends for an evening out. Mark accepted the invitation and we spent the evening catching up. We started out going on runs together that eventually led to dates.

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL AND HOW IT WAS DONE?

On what began as a low-key movie night, watching Wall-E in celebration of Earth Day, Mark presented me with a puzzle, a picture of the two of us that could be framed for the wall. However, in the end I discovered that Mark had two puzzles made. I was piecing together a puzzle with different text than I thought. Once the puzzle showed the words "Will you..." I realized what was happening and Mark got down on one knee and proposed.

WHAT LED YOU TO CHOOSE PHOTOS BY NEYAN FOR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

We identified a few photographers from The Knot whose photography style fit with our personalities. Of these photographers, Neyan was one of the first to respond and despite our short time frame to our wedding day, she happened to be available. Once we met her we felt that her open schedule was meant to be and our decision was easily made.

WHAT’S A MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY?

We ran the Kansas City half marathon together the morning of the wedding. To commemorate the day, we wore shirts with Bride and Groom on our backs. For the entirety of the race, we received pieces of advice and congratulations from fellow runners.

IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO REDO THE WHOLE THING, WOULD YOU CHANGE ANYTHING?

Nope! We enjoyed every moment from our early morning start to the late night finish.

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Do what works best for you! We had a shorter planning time frame than many couples do and had some people tell us we were crazy but we wouldn't change a thing with our planning or wedding day.

JESSICA + TAYLOR | SAINT JOSEPH MO WEDDING | KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2017/1/jessica-taylor-saint-joseph-mo-wedding-kc-wedding-photographer You might remember Jessica and Taylor from their Saint Joseph MO Engagement Session.  These two were so fun to work with and had a blast with their bridal party. They had an emotional heartfelt ceremony and danced the night away at the reception. They ended the night with some sparklers and fireworks, which was super fun. Thank You Jessica and Taylor for choosing me to be your wedding photographer. I asked Jessica and Taylor to answer some questions to get to know them better and here what they had to say

WHAT'S THE STORY BEHING THE TWO OF YOU? HOW AND WHERE DID YOU MEET?

We went out with some friends to eat and met each other at the restaurant. We didn't say a single word to each other that night. I thought (and still do) Jessica was beautiful and asked her friend for her number so I could get in touch with her and maybe go on a date and it worked!!

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

I proposed to her on a trip to the Dominican Republic. I kept it a secret for months. One evening we were on the beach with a perfect sunset and I worked up enough courage to finally do it.

WHAT LED YOU TO CHOOSE PHOTOS BY NEYAN FOR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

We were looking for someone professional and great at what they do. That led us straight to you!

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Start planning early! The big day sneaks up FAST. Also make sure you eat something before you starting drinking any alcohol!!

KAYTIE + JOSHUA | KANSAS WEDDING | KANSAS CITY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2017/1/kaytie-joshua-kansas-wedding-kansas-city-wedding-photographer You might remember Kaytie and Joshua from their KC Engagement Session. Their day was filled with sweet moment from the ceremony (joshua signing to his bride…SO SWEET) to their reception hearing the heart felt speeches. They got married at the Bristol Hill United Methodist Church with a beautiful reception at Ball Conference Center. Thank You Kaytie and Joshua for being so wonderful to work with. I asked the couple some questions to get to know them better and here are their answers below:

What’s the story behind the two of you, how and where did you meet?

Josh and I met on a dating website. We clicked right away and I knew he was someone I wanted to get to know. We went on three dates and he asked me to be his Girlfriend.

Can you tell me about the proposal and how it was done?

I had planned a birthday dinner with both of our families at the plaza. (our birthday are 11 days apart) Josh's mom Tammy wanted to take some pictures at the fountain before we went to dinner. So we were all taking pictures and Josh wanted to take one more and I said "Do we have to?" And the next thing I see is him down on one knee asking me to marry him! It was such a great moment and I'm so glad we got pictures of the whole thing!

What led you to choose Photos by Neyan for your photography?

Another photographer  had recommend her and she is awesome!

Do you have a memorable moment from the wedding day?

Everything about our day was absolutely amazing! The one moment that stands out is when Josh started singing to me during the ceremony. We had a guest singer but I had no idea that Josh was going to sing with him. It was a very sweet and special moment that I will never forget.

If you had the chance to redo the whole thing again, would you change anything?

I wouldn't want to change a single thing about our wedding! I just wish time went slower that day. Everything just happened so fast.

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Don't over stress the small things! Enjoy every moment of planning your big day!

ALEX + TROY | KC WEDDING | KANSAS CITY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2017/1/alex-troy-kc-wedding-kansas-city-wedding-photographer Alex and Troy got married at the Grace United Methodist Church followed by a beautiful reception at the Ball Conference Center. These two were so great to work with and Alex looked absolutely stunning. I could seriously have photographed them all day long. Thank You Alex and Troy for having me share your heartfelt, emotional, and truly beautiful wedding day. I asked them to answer some questions to get to know them better and here what they had to say:

What’s the story behind the two of you, how and where did you meet?

Troy and I met our Junior year of high school in history class. We slowly became friends over that next 2.5 years as we started our college careers at Kansas State University and that friendship grew even stronger when we started dating in January of 2011. We've been together for about 6 years now and can't wait for all that life has to teach us about being husband and wife.

Can you tell me about the proposal and how it was done?

We decided to take a trip to San Diego in December of last year just the two of us. The first night we were there we went to dinner and then took a walk through Seaport Village. Out on one of the piers lit up only by the naval ships across the water, Troy proposed!

What led you to choose Photos by Neyan for your photography?

Neyan was the second photographer for my sisters wedding last year and we really liked and remembered her creative ideas and how she interacted with everyone. We were able to find her work online and decided she was the person we were looking for to capture our big day.

Do you have a memorable moment from the wedding day?

My favorite part of the day was when the church doors first opened and I saw all of our friends and family turned and smiling waiting to see me walk down the aisle. It kind of takes your breath away for a minute.

If you had the chance to redo the whole thing again, would you change anything?

I would try to be less worried about a timeline and the small details I thought were important when in the grand scheme of things they really did not matter. It's hard not to get swept up in all that is going on around you.

Any advice for future couples planning their wedding?

Try not to worry about the little things. Let someone else take care of the little problems for you. Try to focus on the day itself and soak it all in because it is over in a flash.

Thank You Megan and Joshua for choosing me to be your Lawrence KS Wedding Photographer. To get to know the couple better I asked Megan and Joshua to answer the following questions:.

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU MET?

We met at KU during our Junior years. We had lived in the scholarship halls next door to each other for 2.5 years before Josh decided to come over and talk to me during one of our joint meals. His opening line was, "So, I hear you like video games?" From there we snapchatted for about two months before finally going on our first date to Les Mis in January, then to officially dating the first of February.

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

I had just got home from visiting my family over Spring Break, and was working to get voicemails from my grandmother (who had passed away) off of my cellphone. He came home from work and went into the bedroom to change. He came back out in a nice new pair of slacks and a button down shirt. First he made me stand up, then handed me a Marauder's Map from the Harry Potter books. He then handed me a wand and told me I needed to say the spell to get the map to work. At that point I was fairly certain he was taking me on a surprise trip to Harry Potter World, but I obliged. I tapped the map and said "I solemnly swear I am up to no good". As I finished, he got down on one knee, told me he loved me, and asked if I would marry him. Obviously, I said, yes!

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Do what you want, not what everyone else wants! You like that color of bridesmaid dress? You get that color. You think icing on a cake is gross? GET A NAKED CAKE! Thankfully Josh and I were united in most decisions, so that part was easy. Ultimately, you two are the ones getting married and that's who's opinion counts. At the end of the day, the most important thing is that you will be married to the love of your life, so don't stress, go with the flow and HAVE FUN!

They were so great in front of the camera and I could have photographed them all day. We met at Shawnee Mission Park and it was the perfect location and a beautiful day to capture their session. These two are so in love and are absolutely perfect together. We all had a great time and there were lots of laughter. I am SO excited to photograph their wedding in March of 2017. Thank you Brianna and Brett for a great evening. Enjoy your photos.

KAYLA + DYLAN | KANSAS CITY WEDDING | KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2016/9/kayla-dylan-kansas-city-wedding-kc-wedding-photographer I’m SO EXCITED to finally share Kayla and Dylan’s Wedding day blog. You may remember this couple from their adorable winter engagement session. I have been pretty lucky with getting awesome clients but Kayla and Dylan are not only model gorgeous and the sweetest people you'll ever meet, they also have two of the kindest, most inviting families you can imagine! There were so many sweet moments throughout the day from their first look to Kayla walking down the isle and seeing Dylan get so emotional, which was one of my favorite moments of the day. Kayla recorded a surprise song for Dylan, which played as she was walking down the isle and it was one of the sweetest moments I have witnessed at a wedding.

Instead of me gushing on about how emotional, happy and fun the day was. About how many laughs the bridal party shared and just how amazing Kayla looked I asked the couple to answer some questions and here are their answers and some of them came from their wedding website:

What’s the story behind the two of you, how and where did you meet?

Dylan and Kayla met October 2013. They were both so excited to start a new chapter of their lives on UMKC's campus. Dylan pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon that August and Kayla pledged Delta Zeta. They both enjoyed being a part of Greek life that semester and met a lot of people.

Kayla first spied Dylan on stage at Delta Zeta's Big Man on Campus Pageant. It is a philanthropy pageant to raise money for the Starkey Hearing Foundation... but anyways... Dylan competed for the Big Man on Campus Title. Kayla asked her sisters if anyone knew who he was and finally she got a name, Dylan Schwindt.

Eventually their paths crossed. Kayla approached Dylan confidently and asked, "why haven't you ever talked to me?" After that the two talked... They texted often and finally went on a date. Kayla really liked Dylan right away and Dylan really liked Kayla but this was not the right time for their story to begin.

One year later and wiser the two crossed paths again. They were "re-introduced" by their mutual friend. The friend encouraged both of them to ask the other to their sorority/fraternity formals. They did! They quickly connected again and became fast friends. Their friendship continued to develop and the two decided to define the relationship.

Dylan sent Kayla on a scavenger hunt December 18, 2014 across Kansas City to ask her to be his girlfriend. It was the sweetest thing that anyone had done for her. Of course she said yes.

The couple continued to fall for each other...

After nearly a year of dating, they began to talk about marriage and the future. They began to imagine a life together and couldn't imagine that with anyone else.

Can you tell me about the proposal and how it was done?

On November 20, 2015 Dylan asked Kayla to be his wife and once again...of course she said yes.

Their engagement was a wild ride. Kayla and Dylan had talked about getting engaged for awhile. They even tried to figure out dates for their wedding (this wasn't easy because of medical school). Eventually they found a date that would work. Dylan asked Kayla to look at rings with him. They searched high and low and narrowed it down to two (Kayla likes surprises). Dylan asked Robert (Kayla's Dad) for her hand in marriage and he said yes!

Dylan purchased the ring in October. He also purchased something else... a puppy! Kayla loves dogs and he knew she would fall in love with the Maltipoo they would eventually name Moose. The puppy would not be ready to be away from his mom until November so Dylan waited. During this time Kayla would ask little questions trying to figure out details but had no luck. She kept her nails painted for two months just in case...

Finally one night Dylan asked her on a date... she thought, "hm... could this be it?" but then quickly decided they were just going to the new Hunger Games Movie. That night Dylan took Kayla to the Cheesecake Factory and kept telling her they had somewhere to be at 7pm. At the end of dinner, Dylan needed to use the restroom. Kayla waited... and waited... and waited... and then worried... WHAT IS WRONG?

Dylan finally called her after what seemed to be forever and said, "hey! come outside." Her initial response was, "WHAT?! you left me? Where are you? Why did you go outside?" Kayla marched outside a little frustrated only to see Dylan standing in the courtyard with a little grey chevron box. As she got closer... he opened the lid just enough for her to see inside. There was a tan fuzzy thing and a black fuzzy thing. Dylan looked at her like,"it's okay...look inside." Kayla thought it was definitely a stuffed dog but as she reached in she about had a heart attack, it moved! Dylan got her a puppy! A REAL Puppy! She could not believe it.

He looked off to the right at something and it was his parents! Kayla waved... she was so excited but still hadn't put two and two together. She turned back to Dylan and he was on one knee!

"Kayla, will you marry me?" - Dylan

"YES!" - Kayla

If you had the chance to redo the whole thing again, would you change anything?

I would have gone to sleep a little earlier the night before, I was exhausted.  A couple of my bridesmaids and I had a sleepover the night before after an already late rehearsal but I would not change getting to spend time with them!

What led you to choose Photos by Neyan for your photography?

After getting engaged, we began searching The Knot for photographers. We looked and looked and contacted many different photographers but none of them seemed to be the perfect fit. After meeting with Neyan, Dylan and I left knowing she was the photographer we wanted. Her pictures are incredible and she is so easy to work with. We couldn’t imagine someone else capturing our special day.

Do you have a memorable moment from the wedding day?

One of my favorite moments of the day was turning to my bridesmaids after getting my dress zipped and seeing them so excited, full of happy tears. It was an amazing feeling to be surrounded by my best friends. I felt so special.

My absolute favorite memory though was praying with Dylan during our first look. I was so nervous before seeing him but once I say him and held his hand and we began to pray, my heart was calm. I just remember being so excited after that. I could not wait to marry the man of my dreams!

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Get as much as you can do right away! The more that you get done ahead of time the less you will have to stress later. Also, have fun! Enjoy each moment. You’ll be pampered and surrounded with people who love you throughout this whole season of life.

CLAIR + ALEX | LAKE QUIVIRA COUNTRY CLUB WEDDING | KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2016/9/clair-alex-lake-quivira-country-club-wedding-kc-wedding-photographer Clair and Alex must be very lucky because it rained almost the whole time on their wedding day and as they say rain is good luck. These two were so great to photograph and didn't let a little rain stop them from having a great day. Their ceremony took place at Bristol Hill United Method Church and their reception was held at the beautiful Lake Quivira Country Club. Thank You Clair and Alex for letting us be a part of your day.

I asked Clair and Alex to share a little more about themselves and their love story to go along with their photos.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT HOW AND WHERE YOU MET?

Went to the same school, Turner High School. Both of us played sports, he was a grade older than I. We never took notice or spoke to each other in school but in my 2nd year and his 3rd year in college we met through mutual friends and instantly we found a best friend through each other.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

Alex and I love to travel together. Going on a yearly trip to Colorado we went for, what I thought was to celebrate Alex's birthday, mountain bike. and white water raft the next. We love Colorado and the mountains. On the day of Alex's bday, July 18th we were taking a longer trip into the mountains to one of our favorite small towns to spend the night. I was playing with the camera , wen Alex (driving) whipped into a small gravel lookout spot with a great cliff underneath. I was not very pleased but we got out quickly, our buddy Drew grabbed his camera and pointed to the good view for a photo... Before I knew it Alex had ushered near the incredible view and he got down on a knee presenting a lightly shaking box in his hand. I literally lost my breath when he asked me to marry him. I totally said yes and he had a wonderful evening planned of calling all that was important and staying in one of our favorite places to be. He took the celebration of his day, his birthday and made that the day we decided to be joined together. He is so selfless and loves so much.

WHAT LED YOU TO CHOOSE PHOTOS BY NEYAN FOR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

Looking photographers up on the internet. I looked at the knot. I believe... It recommended some top rated photographers in my area. I contacted 3 from the suggestions that day and Neyan was the only one I actually spoke with. She called me back that same hour, I left a message. She was great to work with and quite perfect.

DO YOU HAVE A MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY?

Our vows. Both Alex and I loved sharing our vows and it was beautiful to hear each others promises and commitment.

Getting the photos on the dock while it rained

IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO REDO THE WHOLE THING AGAIN, WOULD YOU CHANGE ANYTHING?

I would NOT change one strand of falling curl, which was basically flat by ceremony time... The love, the faces of all our happy friends and family, everything was perfect because it was as it was suppose to be.

STEPHANIE + GARRETT | CROWNE PLAZA KANSAS CITY WEDDING | KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2016/8/stephanie-garrett-crowne-plaza-kansas-city-wedding-kc-wedding-photographer Once upon a time a doctor and a pilot fell in love, got married and lived happily ever after. Sounds like a fairytale, right? Well that is how the day felt photographing Stephanie and Garrett’s wedding. Stephanie and Garret are such a gorgeous couple and their wedding was incredibly beautiful. They got married at the Crowne Plaza Downtown Kansas City at the Starlight Ballroom, which was the perfect venue for this love filled event. Thank you so much Stephanie and Garret for choosing me to be your Kansas City Wedding Photographer!

Instead of me rambling about the day through my words, I asked the couple to share a little more of their story to go along with the photos.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT WHERE AND HOW YOU MET?

Garrett and Stephanie met through mutual friends while he was in the Navy and she was in college in April of 2008. Garrett had recently returned to Kansas and they quickly fell for each other.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

While Garrett was living in California he made the decision to ask Stephanie the big question. Although they had had numerous conversations about this decision, Stephanie was unaware of the timing. He called her family to ask for their blessing which was given with much enthusiasm. He then flew to Kansas to surprise Stephanie (which she was!). On April 22nd, 2010 after 2 years together, Garrett got down on one knee and popped the question with a beautiful diamond ring at Stephanie's apartment in Lawrence, KS.

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Don't forget to stop and look around at the wedding. It goes by so fast that you could miss the details that you worked hard to put together. Also try to eat :)

KANSAS CITY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER | ST. JOSPEH WEDDING: SYDNEY + STEPHEN https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2016/8/kc-wedding-photographer-saint-joseph-wedding-sydney-stephen  You might remember this adorable couple from their Saint Joseph MO Engagement Session from last October. I was so excited and looking forward to documenting their wedding. These two are so in love and so perfect in front of the camera I absolutely love photographing them. They did get married on one of the hottest days of the year but they braved the heat while doing their portraits outdoors and didn't complain one bit and were all smiles. Their ceremony took place at Wellsprings Community Church and their reception was at The Grand Ballroom, which is a beautiful venue. There were lots of happy tears and lots of heartfelt moments throughout the day from Sydney’s first look with her dad which was really emotional and I think I even shed a few tears behind the camera to their gift exchange and Sydney walking down the isle. You could really feel all the emotions and I’m so happy we were able to capture all the beautiful and sweet moments for them. Thank You so much Sydney and Stephen. It has been a pleasure getting to know the two of you this past year. Enjoy your photos!

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU MET?

We met through a mutual friend in my dorm room. Stephen played football in college and one of his teammates introduced us to each other (my freshmen year and Stephen's sophomore year of college).

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

His plan began by telling me about a month in advance that his family would be going on vacation to Colorado. I was about to begin my dietetic internship, so he knew that I wouldn't be able to go on vacation with his family. In the meantime, Stephen talked with two of my best friends (Anna and Abbey) and my parents to involve them in the plan. Anna and Abbey planned for the three of us to have a girls weekend beginning the day that Stephen left for his family vacation. The weekend would be spent at Lake Viking where Abbey's parents have a lake house. It just so happens that my parents also have a place at Lake Viking. My friends and I loaded up to head to the lake for a fun girls weekend. We stopped by Abby's house for a bit before going to a winery in Jamesport. Just as we were about to leave for the winery, my mom called and wanted us to stop by their lake lot before we kicked off our girls weekend. As I walked down the hill to my parents place and I turned the corner, I saw Stephen standing on our dock. I was in complete shock! I saw him and immediately started crying. I ran down to see Stephen and gave him a huge hug. Stephen got down on one knee and asked me to marry him on May 30, 2015, at Lake Viking. He also knows how important family is to me, so he made sure to have my parents, my brother, his parents, his brother, his grandma, and my two best friends there to witness the magical moment!

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Be organized, work ahead. Look for wedding decorations/vases at thrift stores! Try to involve family members in all parts of the wedding :)

GET TO KNOW THE COUPLE

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU MET?

Josiah and I both went to William Jewell College, and had many of the same friends but didn't meet for a while. We were even in a swimming class one year and just didn't get to know each other. One spring, Josiah went to my ZTA formal with a friend. We got to talking about music and concerts, and connected immediately. I called my sister that night and told her that I had met such a great guy, and I couldn't wait to get to know him more. We talked later on, and ended up going on our first date to a Royal's baseball game. We fell in love, and now we are happily married!

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

I worked on 4th of July last year, so Josiah and I went to his parents' house the following weekend to celebrate the holiday then. The second night we were there, after dinner with extended family and fireworks, Josiah asked me to go outside with him. Instead of going back to the porch, we got in his car and drove out to a clearing in the woods on his parents' land behind their house.  I was suspicious, but I didn't want to assume too much. When we had first met years before, we talked about going to an outdoor concert called Buzz Under the Stars.  As we drove out to the clearing, Josiah told me that since we missed the concert, he put together a playlist of the songs that were played at that show to make up for our missed date. He wanted to recreate our own concert under the stars! His dad's truck was waiting for us, and we sat in the back in lawn chairs, gazing at the stars, listening to music, and talking.

After quite a while, Josiah changed the conversation to more serious topics, and what he wanted out of life. He got out the ring, and asked me to be his wife, to stand by him forever. I said yes, but it was too dark to see the ring. He shined a flashlight on the ring, and it was the most beautiful, perfect ring I had ever seen.  It was the perfect night, just the two of us under the stars.  By this point, it was late, so when we got back inside, everyone else was asleep. The next morning, I called my family, and we were able to celebrate with both of our families separately that day.  Josiah thought out every detail, and I can't think of anything I would change about our story!

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Try to have fun with the process! It can be stressful, but if you just go with your heart while making decisions, it'll all go smoothly and you'll have a wedding that fits you.

KANSAS CITY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER | EVENTFUL AT LOCUST GROVE WEDDING: SARAH + JAMES https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2016/6/kansas-city-wedding-photographer-evenful-at-locust-grove-wedding-sarah-james Sarah and James got married at Eventful at Locust Grove in Weston MO. One of the things I love about being a wedding photographer besides meeting all the wonderful people is all the different venues I get to photograph in and this was such a cute venue. They had their ceremony out doors and reception at the same venue inside which is always great. The weather was beautiful and we were able to capture beautiful photos of the couple with their bridal party. Sarah and James Thank You so much for having us be a part of your day. Here is the highlight of their day.

ABOUT THE COUPLE

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU MET?

James and I met back in November of 2008 while working together at a retail store. We didn't talk much at first, but as time went on, we began to hit it off. In October of 2009 we started officially dating!

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

We had been dating for 5 years, and living together for 1 1/2 years, marriage had definitely been a topic of discussion. James, with the help of my step-father, Allen, put together a proposal idea at the Renaissance Festival. James and I love going to the festival each year, James thought it to be the perfect place, so my family made plans to go one weekend in October. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon, accompanied by my family and a family friend, we set off for a day of adventure at the Renaissance Festival in Kansas City.  Everyone decided to watch a popular show by performers, Turtle and The Hair, a humorous man and woman singing duo.  After a few songs, I decided that (after having a couple too many hard ciders) I needed to use the privies, unbeknownst to me that James’ proposal plan was about to start.

James and I returned only to have the performers call out that they needed ‘helpers’ for their next song, they walked into the audience and picked us out. Of course, I have a bit (okay, a lot) of stage fright and refused to go up to the front. It took some coaxing from James and my mother (and the rest of my hard cider) to get me to the stage. Once on stage the duo began a song entitled, “Mary Mack”, that was a tongue twister all about a girl and a boy getting married.  At this point, I still don't have any idea as to what it going on. The point of this song is for the ladies and gents to duel over who can sing their part the loudest, James and I are positioned at opposite sides of the stage. After the song comes to a close, a soft guitar starts to play and James makes his way across the stage to me. All the while I'm thinking, ‘What are you doing silly, go back to your own side.’, still having no idea what is happening.
At that moment James kneels down and pops the question. Of course, I said yes!

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Don't sweat the small stuff! Everything about wedding planning can be so overwhelming, when people offer their help, take it. Don't try to do everything yourself! Also, take time to enjoy your day and each other, the day flies by so fast!

ABOUT THE COUPLE

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU MET?

Daniel and I met online. We talked for about a year before we became official boyfriend and girlfriend. We skyped regularly and talked and messaged each other before we met in person.

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

We went to a rodeo with a couple of friends. I had a feeling but wasn’t for sure. We were headed to our seats when he asked me to come here and I turned around and he was on his knee. The couple that was with us started videoing and I started crying instantly. I don’t even know what all he said lol. I couldn’t get the words YES out of my mouth so I just shook my head. It was beautiful!

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Plan ahead and make sure if your bridesmaids don’t know what all that entails you give them a sheet saying so. Other than that everything was planned ahead and I knew what I was going to do since I was 5 years old. At the end of the day all that matters is your marrying your Best Friend!

KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER |Terrace on Grand Wedding: Sarah + Nick https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2016/5/kc-wedding-photographer-terrace-on-grand-wedding-sarah-nick No April fools here! Sarah and Nick did get married on April 1st, 2016 and I am so excited to finally share their blog. Nick and Sarah don’t live in KC but from the little time I have had to get to know them I knew this was the perfect day and very fitting for them. They are such a sweet and fun couple with a great sense of humor and just love to laugh. I loved that they had some pranks throughout the day for their guests. Their wedding was held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Overland Park and their reception at Terrace on Grand which is one of my favorite downtown venues. Thank You Sarah and Nick for letting us be a part of your day and document your love story. Enjoy your photos =)

ABOUT THE COUPLE

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU MET?

We met through the intramural game of adult kickball, three years ago.

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

We had a plan of going to Washington D.C. for just an incentive trip back in March of 2015.  We flew in on Thursday morning, roamed the streets of D.C. and eventually walked into Dumbarton Oaks Garden which is where he lead me to a fountain.  Dropped to one knee and little did I know he had a photographer there to take pictures of the whole thing and to do our engagement photos afterwards!  We then went to the Four Seasons hotel to freshen up for dinner, he had set up a bottle of champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and our song playing on the TV so we two stepped and drank champagne before dinner.  I am not usually a crier, but cried twice that night!

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Patience.  It's tough to plan when there's family involved.  It was good to make sure both sides of the relationship have patience throughout the whole process.  Each of you have had a vision of how this day would be leading up to the engagement.

KC PHOTOGRAPHER | BLACK ON BURLINGTON WEDDING: KIMBERLY + MATT https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2016/4/kc-photographer-black-on-burlington-wedding-kimberly-matt I am so excited to finally blog and share this fabulous wedding. It was a rainy day for a Kansas City Wedding but that didn’t stop Kimberly and Matt from having a great time and a beautiful wedding.  These two are such an amazing couple and are just so sweet. I absolutely loved photographing them and they were just so great and natural in front of the camera. Thank You Kimberly and Matt for having us be a part of your day. Enjoy your photos.

ABOUT THE COUPLE

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU MET?

Matt and I worked out at the same gym close to the house I lived in. Matt is such a gentleman, so it's no surprise that he had a hard time striking up a conversation in a gym. After a few missed opportunities to introduce himself, he ended up getting a new job and therefore switching gyms. At that very same time, we happened to connect thanks to online dating. It wasn't until after our first date that we both put it together-it was the person from the gym! Matt picked me up for a second date and as we drove by the gym it all clicked. I guess we both look a little different on a first date than we do at the gym!

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

From early on in our relationship, we enjoyed going to Liberty Memorial to catch the city views, people watch, or really just walk around. The day Matt proposed was filled with fun things that we both love to do! He made everything about the entire day so special. We started with brunch at our favorite breakfast restaurant, Room 39. Then we spent the day at Shawnee Mission Lake canoeing and soaking up some sun. I had always wanted to eat at The Rieger but hadn't had the chance, so Matt took me to dinner there. From my seat at dinner, I could catch the reflection of a sunset on the building across the street. (We both LOVE a good sunset!) Unbeknownst to me, Matt had plans for this particular sunset so he promptly got the bill and hustled us out!  We hurried over to Liberty Memorial just in time to watch the last part of the sunset. Matt got down on one knee, and you know the ending... :)

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Don't stress over the little stuff. We decided to eliminate certain traditional things that just didn't matter to us, such as programs and a bouquet toss.  Is there something you don't think is necessary? Then skip it! We tried not to get too wrapped up in what a wedding should be and instead just designed it to be what we wanted. In cutting some things out, we were able to better manage time and found that the few days before our wedding weren't full of chaos. We wanted to minimize stress and maximize time spent with all our guests in town, and keeping things simple worked for us!

KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAHER | ANNE + ZAK'S TOWN SQUARE PAOLA KS WEDDING https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2016/4/kc-wedding-photograher-anne-zaks-town-square-paola-ks-wedding My First Wedding of 2016 was Anne and Zak’s beautiful Wedding at Town Square Paola. You might remember them from their beautiful engagement session I posted last fall. These two are so sweet and adorable together. We were able to do some outdoor photos and I have to say they were such troopers to brave the cold. Thank You Anne and Zak for having us be a part of your day. It was a pleasure documenting your love.

   ABOUT THE COUPLE

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

On Friday, August 21st, we had plans to go to a concert at Sandstone Amphitheater. I told Zak I would pick up food for us and meet him at his apartment. Of course I couldn't decide what to wear to the concert, so I threw a few outfits in a bag and decided I could figure it out once I got to Zak's apartment. I picked up Chipotle and headed to Zak's. Somehow on the drive over, our food started leaking out of the bag. When I got there, I grabbed my bag of clothes and the leaky Chipotle bag and trucked it all to Zak's door. Zak met me at the door and grabbed everything from me.

I walked in the apartment, and there were flowers and origami hearts scattered on the coffee table. Zak asked me to sit down on the couch. He sang John Legend's "All of Me" while I sat there with a giant goofy smile on my face. When he finished singing, he grabbed my hands and asked me to stand up as he got down on one knee. He explained that today marked the 1000th day of dating. We are both numbers people, so it was awesome that this day had a great number to accompany it. He asked me to marry him and I said yes!

We spent Friday evening at a concert. Saturday morning Zak told me to meet him at his apartment at 8:40am with a bag packed for one night away. I am not a good packer, and it's even harder when you are excited and have no idea where you are headed! We swung by Barnes and Noble to pick up a wedding binder and magazine and headed to the airport. Zak did all the bag checking so I was still in the dark about our final destination. We ended up on a flight to New York! We spent the day exploring the city, enjoying a great dinner and seeing The Lion King on Broadway! Seeing The Lion King in NYC has always been a life dream of mine, and we got to experience it together in the second row. It was the perfect way to celebrate starting our futures together.

~GET TO KNOW THE COUPLE~

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU MET?

I had been single for about 2 years when I started a whole new career in insurance in 2012. It was there that I met Marcus. We started talking in March and kept our relationship casual for about 7 months, until he got a new job offer at a different company. During our dating phase we enjoyed going to movies, concerts, and sporting events together- especially Royals games.

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

I came home from on Monday 12/8/2014 tired and stressed. That night while doing dishes Marcus asked if I'd like to join him on a walk with our Labrador named Dobbs. I agreed and we set off on our usually route through the neighborhood. It was a warm night for December. Towards the end of the walk we approached a weeping willow tree that hangs over the sidewalk. Marcus began to ask me if I knew how much He loves me, how much I mean to him and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I said I did- and that I wanted the same. As we walked under the weeping willow tree he asked me if I'd marry him. I casually laughed and said of course I would. At the time I didn't realize what was actually taking place. He then got down on one knee and pull out a black box with my ring inside. One of the cutest parts was our lab sat next to him as he purposed and held my hand. I said yes and we celebrated that night with champagne and burgers at a local dive bar we had our first date at

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Once you have all your vendors work on a draft Big Day timeline. While doesn't have to be set in stone until it's closer to the actual day, making a timeline really allows you to see the big picture of your day and allow for back up plans if (and when) something doesn't go according to plan.

I'd also say really know your budget. I used a website online that projected what I should spend on each area of the wedding (i.e. photography, cake, dress, etc) based on the budget I put in. It allowed me to stay focused when I met with vendors or went to bridal shows. It can be tempting to go over in one area, but this site allowed me visually see if I increased on one thing, what other areas would be have to be cut because of it.

ABOUT THE COUPLE

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU MET?

We met in January of 2009 while working together at Motorcycle Closeouts and we were actually dating other people at the time. Once our feelings could not be ignored any longer we had our first date on November 7th at The Copa Room where I ordered my first Espresso Martini.

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

Ah, the proposal. Five years after being together Joshua decided it was time. We had planned a mini stay-cation to sit and drink at the pool in the middle of July and entertainingly I was less than happy when Josh tried to pull me away from the pool attempting to get me home to get ready for my surprise. As I grudgingly made it home, mad about not getting to stay at the pool on the one day of the summer when I had planned to only sit at the pool, I ended up coming home to two of my dresses laid out on the bed with a note telling me to choose the dress and the rest of the night is taken care of. Immediately feeling bad and realizing I needed to start sobering up, I went to mend my previous behavior. Then we were off on a Monday night dressed up in black tie and heels as he drives me up to Trezo Mare for an elegant dinner. I continuously tried to ruin his preset plans by trying to talk him into sitting outside all the way up until the waiter sat us at our table. We were even stopped by an older gentlemen while walking in wanting to know why we were so dressed up, Joshua coughed up a quick response as he is sweating bullets just trying to push me into the booth. Once sat, the waiter promptly came over to read off the specials for the night which happened to include an exquisite espresso martini, as he described. It caught my ear and Joshua asked if that sounded good, I could not deny that it did. Interrupting the story it is important to note that I have collected martini glasses since I was younger so they were significant to me. Diving back in, after the waiter took our drink orders and departed Joshua realized he had forgotten his wallet in the car and stated he would be back in a moment. Upon his return, the waiter closely followed with two drinks, one of which was an espresso martini filling a decorated martini glass that, once sat in front of me, I realized said, “Trophy Husband” across the bottom. The waiter ran away unexpectedly fast and as I turned to Joshua who was already sliding himself out of the booth and down onto one knee with a ring box in hand asking me to spend the rest of my life with him.

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

This is going to sound repetitive to what you will hear from everyone, but it’s the truth. Don’t sweat the small stuff. You hear not to be obsessed with the small things during the big day itself, but it’s truthfully the whole time of planning. You don’t need all that, and when it starts to get down to the final days before the day itself all those small things you thought would be nice or cute are more of hassle anyway. Lastly, just do you two. If you feel like walking into your backyard and saying some vows, then do it. There isn’t anything worth adding to the ceremony or doing for your wedding to make anyone else happy or because you think you need to for anyone else. Just do you.

ABOUT THE COUPLE

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU MET?

We met in high school our freshman year. We were only teenagers when we met and had no idea we would one day choose to spend the rest of our lives together, but after our high school year we knew that we couldn't live without one another.

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

Ron proposed to me at the Plaza. He took me out to dinner for our anniversary. I thought he was going to take me shopping like he always do. But little did I know it was more than that, he had already planned for us to take a carriage ride and had flowers waiting for me. Once we got off the ride Ron asked a family walking by to take our picture. So after a few pictures I was so fascinated with the horse and then I heard the family say Awww, I turn to look and didn't realize he was down on his knees. I just heard the crowd say awwwww. So I turned around and notice that was down on his knees with a box in his hand. He had a ring and he said "Boravy, will you marry me ", and of course I said yes!

ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Make sure to give yourself enough time to plan the wedding and don't be afraid to ask friends and family for help. It makes things a lot easier less stress on the bride and groom. In addition, planned your wedding the way you want it to be not what others want it to be. Try doing some DIY stuff like invitations, and centerpieces yourself. That will save you lots of money. Also planning a wedding on a day other than a Saturday because that's the mat expensive day. Last, but not least relax and enjoy your day!

KANSAS CITY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER | JAMES P. DAVIS HALL WEDDING: AMBER and NICHOLAS https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2015/8/kansas-city-wedding-photographer-james-p-davis-hall-wedding-amber-and-nicholas Amber and Nick got married at the James P. Davis Hall. It was a beautiful day for a wedding and it was such an honor to witness the love these two share for each other. They are seriously two of the most genuine and sweetest people I have had the pleasure to capture and be around. Thank you Nick and Amber for choosing me to document your love story. Enjoy your photos.

ABOUT THE COUPLE

HOW THEY MET:

Nick and I met in high school. We played in the band together and he noticed me from my behind and that is when our friendship began lol. He went to basic training for the Army and 6 months later he called me and we have been together ever since.

THE PROPOSAL:

The proposal was absolutely perfect and so romantic! It was our one year anniversary and he took me to his parent’s farm to ride horses. Interestingly, on the way there I felt like I should have a ring. We rode through a cut out path his dad had made to the cross at the top of a hill. There was a surprise picnic and as the sun began to set I said, “I feel like I am on an episode of the Bachelorette!” He asked me to marry him and I said “YES!”

What was the best part or your favorite moment of your wedding day?

The best part of the wedding day was the first look. It was the first time we were able to see one another on the big day and it was just the two of us. We were able to talk for a little, which we could not do during the ceremony. In no way did it take away from walking down the aisle!

Bride:  What advice would you give to future brides for their wedding day?

Do no let anyone or anything ruin your special day. Decide ahead of time to make the most of it and to focus on your husband-to-be. There will be things that do not go as planned but the key is to expect the unexpected and have an unforgettable day!

KANSAS CITY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER | HEATHER and CODY https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2015/8/heatherandcody KANSAS CITY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER | HEATHER and CODY

Heather and Cody are such a sweet couple. I very much enjoyed working with them and documenting this special time in the lives for them. They got married at Wesley Covenant Chapel at UM Church of the Resurrection and their reception took place at the Aloft Hotel. They had a very casual and laid back reception and just wanted to enjoy the evening celebrating with their family and friends. Also instead of traditional favor they had caricature artist for their guests to walk away with fun caricature drawings of them, which was so fun, and such a cool idea and I think their guests enjoyed that very much. Thank You Heather and Cody for choosing me to document your love story. Enjoy your photos

~ABOUT THE COUPLE~

HOW THEY MET:

We met walking our dogs at our condo complex. Whenever we were out after that our dogs ran towards each other to play so we just “had” to stop and talk. LOL We found out that we knew some mutual friends that lived in the complex. This group started meeting for Taco Tuesdays and it was a great way to get to know each other even better before deciding to date.

THE PROPOSAL:

Cody and I went to my family’s house in Lincoln, NE for Thanksgiving. After the meal we decided to get some air and go for a walk in the Haymarket. Cody got down on one knee as we passed by the clock tower and asked me to marry him! There may have been a few joyful tears before the words “Yes!” came out. As soon as I said yes, the clock tower bells began to chime. It was perfect timing!

We included the clocktower in our invitations and ceremony. When they pronounced us husband and wife, children who were friends and relatives rang bells to signify the start of our new life together.

ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES:

Enjoy every moment of it and be sure to hire a stellar photographer. Photos will remind you of things that you don’t even remember. Neyan was amazing on our wedding day! She has a creative eye for composing photos and has a great way of making people feel comfortable. She was very unobtrusive. After the posed photos, we didn’t even know when she was taking our picture.

KC PHOTOGRAPHER | KANSAS CITY ENGAGEMENT: Maegen + Marcus https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2015/7/kc-photographer-kansas-city-engagement-session-maegen-marcus I have had to reschedule several sessions this year due to all the rain we have been getting. Maegen and Marcus were pretty set on the date they scheduled their engagement session for and did not want to cancel or reschedule rain or shine and putting their faith in the hands of Mother Nature. I have to say I was a little nervous for this session just because I was already warned that Marcus does not like being in front of the camera as most guys don’t but it turned out to be a great session and he did just fine.  The beginning of the session we had just enough time to capture a few images outside before the storm rolled in. I was also really excited that they were up for doing some photos in the rain. They were pretty awesome to photograph and so easy going the session went so much better than I thought it would. It was going so well that by the end of the session they got in the middle of the street wrapped up in each other’s arms and braved the pouring rain with their love…seriously how sweet is that?  The bad weather certainly did not stop them from having fun in the rain and made for some romantic rain photos. Thank you Maegen and Marcus! You two were a joy to capture and can’t wait to document your wedding in November.

KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER | BENGALI WEDDING IN KS : ELLI and NABIL https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2015/7/Elliandnabil KC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER | BENGALI WEDDING IN KANSAS : ELLI and NABIL

I am so excited to finally blog about this wedding. I always love photographing cultural weddings and see how different cultures celebrate marriage. This was one of the most unique weddings I have ever photographed and I absolutely loved it. It was a 2-day event. The first night was at the Ball Conference in Olathe and this was where they did the turmeric ceremony where family members and friends apply a small amount of turmeric paste to the brides face and also feed the bride sweets. The bride and everyone was dressed is beautiful colorful cultural outfits. The groom then later joined in the evening and they had some dance performances done for them.

The second day was the reception that took place at The Sheraton Overland Park Hotel at the Convention Center. The day started out raining but cleared up just in time for us to get some beautiful portraits of the bride and groom. The evening was filled with beautiful traditional ceremonies, speeches, dancing and the couple enjoying their time with family and friends. Thank You Elli and Nabil for choosing me to photograph your beautiful wedding. Enjoy your photos

~ABOUT THE COUPLE ~

How They met:

Nabil and I met in Winter 2014 introduced by family friends.  My friend's brother had known him from undergraduate studies.  We started talking on the phone mainly since he was finishing up classes in Florida and completing training in the Navy.  He got a job in Chicago at the Naval base around the same time I got a job in Chicago.  We thought that was a good sign.  He met my family in Summer 2014 and I met his on Labor day.

The Proposal:

He proposed 12/13/14 (an easy day to remember)! He knew my hobby was painting so he proposed after a couples painting class date night in Leawood where he had a canvas that asked "will you marry me?"

What was the best part or your favorite moment of your wedding day?

Our wedding as the one chance Nabil and I had to see all of our favorite people in one place, feed them well and dance the night away with them.  It was the one night I saw him dance with my grandmother, meet my high school and college friends and spend time with my coworkers.  I danced the night away with his best friends and cousins, my goddaughter and new friends we are excited to spend more time with in the future.  There is no other event like a wedding to bring people together.

What was your Wedding Inspiration?

For our wedding, I dressed in traditional Bangladeshi wedding complete with the red bride sari and traditional grooms outfit.  Our family hadn't had a traditional cultural wedding in several years and everyone was excited.  The decorations were just based on celebrating spring colors and flowers.  I wanted the room both bright and warm.

Bride: What advice would you give to future brides for their wedding day?

Brides have wedding day amnesia - you will remember so little because so much happens and it goes way way to fast.  Documenting your day with photo and video is the most important thing - you will look back and see priceless moments you had forgotten had happened. Prioritize the rest of your energy on food and good music.  The rest will come together.

Groom: What advice would you give to future grooms for their wedding day?

Set up and enjoy a more private photo session with your bride some where a little separate from the wedding - it ends up being the ONLY few moments you two really get together with each other alone that day.  Use it to enjoy and reflect being with her before you get pulled away for the rest of the evening.

KC PHOTOGRAPHER | THOMPSON BARN WEDDING: ERIN + GARY https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2015/6/kc-photographer-thompson-barn-wedding-erin-gary It has been such a joy getting to know Erin and Gary and document their love story. The day started out rainy but luckily cleared up just in time for us to get some fabulous photos. They got married at The New Life Community Church and their Reception took place at Thompson Barn. Thank You Erin and Gary for choosing me to be a part of your day. Congratulations again and Enjoy your photos.

~ ABOUT THE COUPLE ~

Tell us a little bit about you and your relationship? (When did you meet?  How long have you been together? Or anything you would like to share: We met in 2007 after our good friends (also hairstylist) Mike and Kelly Cordray set us up on a date.  We dated for 8yrs (yes…EIGHT YEARS!!) - When we decided it was finally time to "tie the knot”.  Erin is a hospice nurse and Gary recently completed the fire academy and will soon be pursuing a career as a firefighter.  We decided to get married only 6 months prior to the wedding!  Needless to say...we lived, dreamt and slept - ALL THINGS WEDDING.

What was the best part or your favorite moment of your wedding day? We can’t pinpoint a favorite moment of our wedding day as the entire experience was phenomenal and simply breathtaking.  The most memorable part of our wedding day actually came hours after we got home and had a chance to sit down and breathe.  It was so humbling to witness how many people chipped in to make our wedding day so incredibly special.  It was a day that we will forever hold deep in our hearts.

What was your Wedding Inspiration? DIY - yes.. DO.IT.YO-SELF!! We saved thousands (literally).  It was a lot of work, but it sure did pay off.  We also had our friends and family all create a letter “B” to incorporate in every centerpiece.  We wanted to make our wedding unique for us.  This singlehandedly was the best part of our theme - made the decorations very special…and we have keepsakes to showcase at home!

Bride:  What advice would you give to future brides for their wedding day? Oh wow - well first, this is your wedding - so do everything the way you want to.  We had bridesmen and a groomsmaid…we did it our way and loved every minute of it!!  Designate people to take on jobs because you can't and will not be able to do it all yourself.  Also, try to slow down and experience the day as it is over before you blink your eyes.  Try not to focus on little things, BUT - I do encourage you to have someone in charge of time.  Someone who will literally watch the clock and cue where to go and when - it's imperative!!  Our lives would have been much easier had we thought of that.

Groom:  What advice would you give to future grooms for their wedding day? Prepare for a long day - mentally and physically.  Expect the unexpected and be open to interpretation.  There will be a lot going on so live in the moment.

From the very beginning when I met Megan and Tyler I knew they would be so much fun and easy to work with and I was right.  We had a great time when we did their engagement session and it was a great opportunity to get them in front of the camera and get to know them better.  That is one of the reasons I love and suggest couples to do engagement photos so that way they feel at ease in front of the camera and know what to expect on their wedding day and it gives me an opportunity to get to know them better. They had a beautiful outdoor ceremony and reception at the Kansas City Airport Marriott. Everything went great throughout the day and they had a great bridal party and easy to work with. Thank You Megan and Tyler and it has been a pleasure getting to know you.  Enjoy your photos.

Also a big Thank You to my 2nd photographer Diana.

I always love seeing new venues and this was a great location for an intimate wedding. The day started out with rain once again. This is my 3rd wedding this year where we start the day out with rain but we got lucky it cleared up in time for their photos and ceremony.  I just knew I would like this couple from our first phone conversation a few months earlier when they contact me to photograph their wedding.  They were kind, easy going, and you could just tell right through the phone that Chuda was smiling the whole time we were talking about their wedding.   When I met them I was right, I really liked them and I LOVE that they included their little dog in the wedding and even brought him to the consultation. Louie is just so darn cute. I also love all the details from their wedding it was clear that they spent a lot of time and care planning their beautiful wedding. Here are a few photos from the day. Thank you Chris and Chuda for letting me capture your love story and be a part your special day.

KC PHOTOGRAPHER | ALBANY MO WEDDING: JENN + CODY https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2014/7/kc-photographer-albany-mo-wedding-jenn-cody

Remember this beautiful couple from their engagement session last October? Well I got to photograph their beautiful wedding on May, 24th.  The morning of the wedding I woke up in Kansas City to pouring rain and storms which is a photographer’s nightmare weather and I was really worried since I knew their ceremony would be at the lake. They say it’s good luck, but let’s be real no one wants rain on their wedding day. When I got to Albany MO which is where the wedding took place luckily there was no rain just a little overcast. We got really lucky and we were able to capture some beautiful photos on the lake which is also where the ceremony took place.  Jenn and Cody didn’t let the rain and clouds spoil their wedding day that is for sure! They had a beautiful heartfelt ceremony and later partied the night away with their friends and family. Congratulations Mr and Mrs. Baldridge!

KC PHOTOGRAPHER | SPRINGFIELD WEDDING: ERIC + JULIE https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2014/4/springfield-wedding-eric-and-julie Julie and Eric are such a fun and laid back couple. I was excited to photograph and be a part of  their special day. I usually like to get to know my couples or do an engagement session before photographing their wedding so that they are more comfortable in front of the camera on their wedding day. That wasn’t the case with this couple and I actually didn't get to meet Eric until their wedding day since they live out of town in NY, but they were very easy to work with and very laid back. The wedding took place in Springfield Missouri and we got lucky the weather was nice enough to capture a few shots outdoors. Here are some of the photos from their special day. I used to work with Keia a while back and I was excited to meet her adorable kids. We had to fight against day light but we managed to get some great shots. Here are just a few photos from their session.

KC PHOTOGRAPHER | KANSAS CITY ENGAGEMENT JENN + CODY https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2013/12/jenn-and-cody-kansas-city-engagement Hooray for a perfect fall day! What a fun shoot this was! Jenn and Cody were just adorable. This shoot was an effortless combination of light, beauty, and ease. I LOVE that Jenn was so prepared and brought a bunch of cute props to personalize their session and I think they turned out super cute. They were so down to earth and genuine, and they were just fantastic in front of the camera. Not only were they incredibly flexible and willing to do anything, but we had a BLAST shooting as well! I am really looking forward to their upcoming Wedding but In the mean time here are some photos from their engagement session. Congratulations Jenn and Cody =)

KC PHOTOGRAPHER | KANSAS CITY ENGAGEMENT DIANNA + TOMMY https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2013/11/diana-tommy---engagement Diana contacted me to photograph her engagement party and I was so excited because she explained to me there would be a traditional Vietnamese ceremony. Those who know me know how much I love to learn about other traditions and other cultures.

The ceremony started out at Dianna's house around noon on a rainy day and it lasted a couple of hours. We were lucky the weather cleared up a bit after the ceremony and we were able to capture a few photos in their traditional Vietnamese clothes which I loved and Dianna looked stunning. Then we met later in the evening to finish up and capture a few more photos as they changed and they were ready for the dinner party. Here are just a few photos from that day

KC PHOTOGRAPHER | KANSAS CITY/ ST.LOUIS WEDDNG AMRA & JUSMIR https://www.photosbyneyan.com/blog/2013/9/amra-jusmir---married-kc/stl-wedding I am excited to start blogging and share this beautiful wedding as my first blog!

Amra and Jusmir got married on June, 29th, 2013. The wedding started out in Kansas City where they had a small traditional Bosnian celebration and ended in St Louis where the reception was. When we arrived in STL the weather was frightful and it was pouring rain but I was so happy that it cleared up a bit and we were able to get a few beautiful shots out side.

Amra and Jusmir’s wedding may have had a few sprinkles of rain, but that did not stop them from having the most perfect wedding ever!

Congratulations Amra and Jusmir.
